Count Down to Z-day! FiCT 2012:part 3

Turning Weaknesses into strengths: This has been the name of the game since we last checked in on Zuriah Davis, as she prepares to take on the challenge of becoming the Fittest in Cape Town!

Her training regime of late has included sessions with the awesome trainers at Ballistix fitness in Somerset West, Wall Climbing with Shaun Petersen of 360 Specialized Training and a second attempt at a timed session with me.

Her workouts were as follows:
16/01/12 (Ballistix)
15 minutes for max number of rounds:
  • 10 Box Jumps
  • 8 16kg KB Swings
  • 6 Burpees
Zee managed a total of 7 Rounds.

17/01/12 (@ 360 Specialized Training - Wes)
  • 10 Burpee Thrusters
  • 50 Wall Ball Shots 5kg ball.
  • 10 jump pull ups
  • 10 meter Hand Stand Walkouts.
  • 100 Skips
  • 30 KB overhead swings 16kg
2 Rounds were completed by Z - 1st Rnd: 14:00. 2nd Rnd: 13:37.03
Walking it out...

18/01/12 (Ballistix)
Was another short timed session - again set at 15 mins:
  • 5 Double under skips
  • 5 push ups
  • 10 split jumps
Zee completed 11 rounds in the alloted time with the 12th round falling short on the dbl unders.

On the 20/01/12 she spent a session climbing on the indoor wall with Shaun P. Her ultimate goal being to help her with upper body strength and stamina gains.

So Far Zuriah's stamina and strength endurance have increased. Given the short time frame originally within which to prepare for the upcoming games, our game plan having been to over prepare in terms of strength, in order facilitate gains in other areas and to make up the difference in stamina based events.

On the 24/01/12 precisely 12 days since the first attempt - we followed up on timed session 2:
  • 50 skips
  • 350m Row
  • 50 Wallball shots
  • 20 12kg Clean & Press
  • Max Pull ups
Zee's time for the rowing decreased appreciably by an average of 7 seconds over her first attempt and remained consistent.
Her times overall were consistent over her first attempt on the 12/01/12 -
Times were Rnd 1: 10:00mins even.
Rnd 2: 8:10
Rnd 3: 8:39

The "L" Sit.

Zee has been putting some major effort into tightening up her weak areas, the Pike or "L" - Sit being one of her least favourite activities. Her ab routines have been geared toward a lower ab focus. Her most recent climbing session with Shaun on Friday the 27/01/12 stressed her need to strengthen this area.

Going Forward - we have just 12 days till the Competition and the nerves are starting to settle in. Zee is a very capable and committed athlete, her focus is spot on, even though she's a little on edge about the areas where she's weakest, her strengths and determination are a brilliant driving force.

Looking to next week and another update on Zuriah's progress.

Organised. Committed. Determined.
